Before the June 25 Scoping Meeting: What Residents Can Do

The public review process for a 1,000+ foot tower at Independence Plaza is moving forward, and this week presents an important opportunity for residents to make their voices heard.

1. Know Your Why

Everyone comes to this issue from a different perspective. Perhaps your concern is affordable housing and ensuring that any housing commitments are transparent and permanent. Perhaps you are worried about construction impacts, neighborhood safety, environmental effects, quality of life or preserving the unique character of Tribeca.

Take time to identify what matters most to you and how this proposal could affect your family, your block, or the broader community. Your personal story can be one of the most powerful forms of advocacy.

2. Participate in the June 25 City Planning Scoping Meeting

Date: Thursday, June 25, 2026
Time: 2:00–5:00 p.m.

This meeting is an opportunity for residents to provide input on the environmental issues that should be fully studied as part of the review process. CFDC strongly encourages residents to:

  • Monitor the City’s meeting page for participation details, which will be posted on June 25.
  • Attend the meeting.
  • Testify publicly. Prepare remarks in advance and rehearse them. Keep comments focused and concise. Individual testimony is limited to approximately three minutes.
  • Submit written comments through July 6, 2026 via email or mail. Email: 26DCP143M_DL@planning.nyc.gov. Mail: Evren Ulker-Kacar, AICP, NYC Department of City Planning, 120 Broadway, 31st Floor, New York, NY 10271

3. Contact Your Representatives

Elected officials and decision-makers need to hear directly from residents. Our contact sheet includes:

  • Mayor Zohran Mamdani
  • Sideya Sherman, Director of City Planning
  • Leila Bozorg, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Planning
  • Dina Levy, Commissioner, NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development
  • Council Member Christopher Marte
  • State Senator Brian Kavanagh

4. Sign the Petition (and Ask Others to Sign)

Add your name to the CFDC petition and encourage your friends, neighbors and family members to do the same. Every signature helps demonstrate the level of community engagement and concern surrounding this proposal.

5. Support CFDC’s Work

This is a long-term effort that requires sustained community organizing, public education, expert support and ongoing advocacy. If you believe community voices should play a meaningful role in shaping the future of Tribeca, please consider making a donation to support CFDC’s work.

The future of Tribeca is being discussed right now. Your voice, your participation, and your engagement matter.
